Renovation work at HKH Kathmandu

In 2013 we established the HKH - Himalayan Komang Home project in Kathmandu. After ten years of service the building facilities were in a poor state and needed urgent attention. We wanted to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our home with a full renovation work to give the better conditions we can afford to our children.
Thanks a lot for giving us so nice study room!!

In 2023, a decade ago, we brought the “Himalayan Komang Home” project to life, and we wanted to celebrate by improving the living conditions of the building for the students, so they can live in a cleaner and healthier environment.

The building has 4 floors with 7 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 1 office, 2 study-dining rooms, a kitchen, library, and meditation room. Currently, 25 students reside there alongside Nyima, who serves as our director and HKH coordinator.

We really needed to paint all the walls in the rooms, add tiles to the kitchen and study-dining room floors, and get new carpet for all the bedrooms. So, at the start of 2023, we launched a fundraising campaign to tackle this huge task of renovating the HKH.

In September 2023 (after the rainy monsoon season) we detected a very serious problem of humidity in the boys’ and girls’ bedrooms. We consulted with the experts and saw that the humidity was coming from the bathrooms adjacent to the rooms. This meant we had to completely renovate the 3 bathrooms before we could start painting all the rooms!!!

Thanks to the generosity of many people, especially from Germany and Spain, as well as other parts of the world, we were able to begin the works in May 2023, despite the huge chaos that comes with carrying out such extensive renovations with 25 teenagers living in the same place!

With everything raised we have been able to carry out the following reforms between May and November 2023

  • Change tiles in kitchen, 2 study rooms and laundry area
  • Change the drinking water purification system
  • Change floors and walls in 3 bathrooms, putting new tiles and make a storeroom. With this we have cut the humidity in the bedrooms.
  • Paint ALL the rooms including the terrace of the building.
  • Put carpets in ALL bedrooms, office, library and meditation room.
  • Put new closets in the bedrooms.

We love this green colour in our study room!!
Now no more humidity is coming from toilet to the rooms!!!

The cost of carrying out ALL these renovations has been 15.500 euros and we have been able to do it thanks to the enormous generosity and concern of many people due to the humid conditions in which our boys and girls lived. Without your help we would not have been able to provide healthier and more hygienic housing for our students!!

THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE!!!
